Inside King Charles's closeness to 'the girl he never had' Princess Catherine surprised William

King Charles has developed a strong bond with his daughter-in-law, Kate, whom he welcomed into the royal family in 2011.

She has been a huge supporter of his recent battle with cancer. As the father of Princes William and Harry, Charles has always wanted a daughter. On his 76th birthday, he may have been reflecting on his family ties after a difficult year. Kate, who married Prince William in 2016 after meeting at university, has had a close relationship with King Charles since she joined the family.

In February, it was announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer, with both Queen Camilla and Kate standing by his side during this difficult time. However, just a month later, Kate revealed her own cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, she is now cancer-free and is slowly returning to public life.

Their shared experience with the disease has strengthened their bond, leading some to call Kate Charles’ daughter. Former royal correspondent Jenny Bond noted that Charles would have cherished having a daughter, expressing disappointment at Harry’s birth.

Despite hopes of a reconciliation with Prince Harry, tensions remain. Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, moving to California with their children. King Charles met his youngest granddaughter, Princess Lilibet, shortly after her first birthday during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, but he has mostly communicated with his grandchildren via video calls.
