Last weekend, the Souk Food Bank suffered a devastating blow when criminals stole thousands of pounds worth of food and other donations, severely impacting many families who rely on its services. The food bank, located on Peckham High Street, was broken into in the early hours of Sunday, September 8.

The Christian charity PAN, which runs the food bank, has expressed its gratitude for the outpouring of support it has received from the community, particularly thanking Prince William and Duchess Catherine for their kindness. The head of the South London food bank noted that he had been encouraged by the generosity of local people.

Around £3,000 worth of food and toiletries was stolen, along with a laptop, according to Peter Edwards, the charity's chief executive. They have shared their appreciation, thanking the royal couple for their contribution to recovery efforts following the theft.

The charity said it was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from all parts of society and is working hard to replenish food supplies. This is not the first time the royal couple have stepped up to help those in need. They previously made a separate donation in July to support victims of Hurricane Barry after the storm caused devastation in the Caribbean.

In 2022, Prince William and Duchess Catherine visited the region as part of a royal tour to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. This recent act of kindness comes at a time when the couple are also facing their own challenges, as Kate focuses on her health and celebrates her return.
